Mammootty as a Syrian Christian, basically as a Kottayam Achayan has always been a huge draw among the Malayalee audience. Now writer Ranjit and director Joshy are making a new film appropriately titled Nasrani, a word used in early times for the Syrian Christians in Kerala.

Nasrani is going to be Mammootty’s big Onam 2007 release, likely to clash with Mohanlal’s Ali Bhai. The film is produced by M.Rajan of ‘Horizon Entertainments’. It will be an out and out fun movie, laced with action and sentiments. A girl from Bollywood will play the heroine.

It was Joshy who first gave Mammootty an Achayan image with Sangham in the late 80’s. This was followed by a series of similar larger than life characters in spotless white mundu and juba, and a Rayban cooling glass! Who can forget Mammootty in Kottayam Kunjachan? So Mammootty as Nasrani, with Ranjit’s punchline dialogues and Joshy’s direction is sure going to be a treat for his fans
